Why can't we have it all?
Because we threw it away.
Useful reusable nutrients
are our bottom line,
the story of our Garbage
replaces outcomes
in the future.
We threw away
the garden hose
the tires broken
the rims on them
and the air inside
We swept the broken glass
aside
with the cruft of dirt
And like that cruft
all reside
on the thin shell
of earth
inert
and left at loss
because ourselves are lost.
Useful reusable nutrients
take planning,
and we as homo sapiens
only think, witness, or do
when we necessarily have to.
We'd rather have robots
that make or watch for us.
And we're doing our best
to design robots to think, too.
Our greatest hope and worst fears
is written on robotic fiction
Leering machines
we'd ween from electricity
so we'd not have to feed them either.
Our bottom line,
Garbage,
was made by robots.
Our salvation
and rapture
will be an electronic Jesus.
A Glow in the dark, battery operated,
part replaceable, recyclable, thinking machine
wielding a multi-tool and
army knife with laser sight
and a demolition bar slung back
hung from a strap and ready for action.
The story of our garbage
began with the era of machines
producing things cheap.
Machines to mine, grow, make, store
evermore than before
For our children to wallow in comfort.
While we continue
to make more complicated modern life.
Complicated devices and remotes
complicated laws and moonshots
Complex problems beyond our budget
of both time and space.
Replace that outcome.
That one, that we're screwed.
Fusion power is real,
Propane synthesis is possible
Thinking machines powered by these
may make use of garden hose
and garbage tires, beyond burning and burial.
And it's always burning and burial
anymore isn't it.
In the Future,
left of loss
we design robots to think
like an electronic Jesus
to solve complex problems
synthesizing possibility.
Because we threw it away.
